Brown Sugar worth of Rs. 1 crore seized, two arrested from Sonamura
In a largest recovery of narcotic items in recent times, Tripura police as part of its ‘Drug free Tripura’ operations has seized Brown Sugar worth of Rs. 1 crore and has also arrested two drug peddlers from Kulubari village of Sonamura police station under Sepahijala district on Sunday.
Police sources said that based on secret information, a joint contingent of police personnel from Sonamura and Melaghar police stations led by SDPO(Sonamura) Samir Roy and Sonamura police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manik Debnath raided at the house of one Idrish Miah (45) at midnight.
During the search operation, police team recovered 20 packets of suspected Brown Sugar hidden in different parts of the house, worth above Rs. 1 crore, said SDPO (Sonamura) Samir Roy.
Police have also arrested two drug peddlers identified as Rubel Hussein (28 and Nurul Amin (38), both are residents of ward number-5 of Kulubari Gram Panchayat.
SDPO Samir Roy said that seized Brown Sugar has a total weight of 260 grams and a specific case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act).
He said that a police team has started an investigation to unearth the route of drug consignment and a manhunt to arrest the house owner Idrish Miah, who was directly involved for storing such huge quantities of contraband items.
SDPO added that they will continue their anti-drug operations across the subdivision and will spoil the nexus of drug networks spreading in the bordering town.
